Places to stay

Due to the scale of the motorsport festivals at Goodwood, there is a substantial amount of accommodation available in the wider area. Unfortunately, rural transport options to and from Boxgrove are rather limited, so we have highlighted some of the closer options around the village. It is worth checking sites such as airbnb, booking.com, etc. as there are likely places in Boxgrove and nearby villages we are unaware of.

If you are having difficulty finding somewhere to stay, please to get in touch with us, we might be able to help!

Places within walking distance(ish)

  • Goodwood hotel
    • A 4 star hotel (the closest hotel) about a mile from Boxgrove complete with a restaurant/bar, spa, and fitness centre. It sits at the entrance to Goodwood House and within the Goodwood estate. It is possible to walk to Boxgrove Priory and the vicarage from here but takes around 35mins.
  • Tinwood
    • There are three luxury lodges on the grounds of the vineyard behind the Priory (pictured). A short walk across their fields to Boxgrove Priory – we often take Theo this way on his daily walk! – but the route can get muddy due to rain, and walking on paved roads would take closer to half an hour.
  • Blundens holiday lets
    • Happily positioned in the next hamlet over from Boxgrove – a short, and paved, walk from the priory (10-15 mins) – these self contained flats contain a kitchen, etc. They are also just around the corner from the Anglesey Arms (the local pub).

Places in Chichester

Chichester is the local city, about 3 miles from Boxgrove, and has a reasonable bus service (every 30 minutes) to the Priory’s drive in Boxgrove. Driving takes around 10 mins and the bus up to 30.

  • Purchases (Chichester)
    • An option for foodies, there are newly refurbished rooms at Purchases, a Chichester dining institution.
  • The Clockhouse/The Courtyard/St Martin’s House
    • Boutique, recently launched properties located around Chichester. Can be found at https://westsussexhideaways.com/.
  • East Walls Hotel
    • A 4 star hotel in central Chichester offering a range of rooms.

Places in nearby villages

There is plenty of accommodation available in nearby villages which are not as well connected by transport. We also definitely suggest looking yourself! Below are a few places we know or have heard good things about. Uber has arrived in Chichester, but many cab companies are still struggling to meet demand at peak/unusual hours, so booking ahead is recommended.

  • The Pig in the Downs
    • An upscale pub and hotel, part of The Pig chain, situated in the quiet countryside around the village of Madehurst. It is 5 miles from the Priory – a 10-15min car journey.
  • The Fox Goes Free
    • A lovely pub – local favourite – in Charlton (within the South Downs National Park) offering beautiful views of the downs, rooms, and decent food. Charlton is 4.5 miles from Boxgrove Priory, approximately a 10 minunte drive.
  • The Royal Oak in Lavant
    • A pub with rooms beautifully situated in the small village of Lavant and a short 5-10 min drive from Boxgrove.
  • The Horse and Groom in East Ashling
    • Included on the Michelin guide for its delicious food, this pub with rooms is slightly further afield but perfect for anyone hoping to indulge a little in the local gastronomic scene. East Ashling is approximately a 15 minute drive from Boxgrove.
  • Flintstones Cottages
    • 5 well presented, self catering cottage rentals between Oving and Aldingbourne, just across the A27 and 5 minutes drive in from Boxgrove.
  • Madam Green Farm, Oving
    • Three holiday rentals on a farm around the corner from The Gribble Inn – a cheerful pub – in the small, but perfectly formed, village of Oving. The houses include access to a swimming pool and are good for groups – the largest property, The Farmhouse, sleeps up to 12. Easy 5-10 minute drive to Boxgrove.
